Salary: $120,000+ DOE

Summary
Our core technology is proven; now, we are scaling. We build rugged, sensor-driven systems for high-voltage infrastructure where failure is not an option. We need a Senior Backend & Data Infrastructure Engineer to architect and own the full data backbone of our platformfrom edge ingestion to cloud processing to analytics readiness.
You will design and build production-grade systems that ingest and process millions of data points from distributed field devices in real time.

This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering, cloud infrastructure, and data engineering, ensuring our platform is scalable, secure, and reliable as we move from pilot to full fleet deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and build end-to-end data pipelines from edge devices through to cloud storage and analytics layers
• Design and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure (AWS) to support high-volume, real-time data ingestion
• Own backend systems including APIs, data flow orchestration, and service architecture
• Build and manage multi-tenant systems, fleet management tooling, and device provisioning workflows
• Implement robust data communication systems across constrained and distributed environments
• Design for reliability at scale, handling millions of data points with low latency and high integrity
• Lead security architecture across infrastructure, data pipelines, and device communication layers
• Deploy and manage containerized services using Kubernetes
• Work closely with data scientists to ensure clean, accessible, production-grade data pipelines
• Contribute to system design across deployment software, backend services, and infrastructure

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of solid experience building backend systems and data infrastructure from the ground up
• Proven track record of architecting and scaling systems handling millions of data points
• Strong experience with AWS (compute, storage, networking, and data services)
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployments
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, data pipelines, and real-time data processing
• Strong programming experience in C and/or C++
• Experience designing secure systems across infrastructure, data flow, and communications
• Experience building backend systems including APIs, provisioning systems, and fleet/device management
• Strong understanding of data communications protocols and system-level data flow
• Experience in a startup environment or as a founder/operator, with a bias toward ownership and execution

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with IoT or sensor-based systems at scale
• Familiarity with edge-to-cloud architectures and constrained network environments
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms and data isolation strategies
• Background in high-reliability or industrial systems (energy, utilities, telecom, etc.)
• Exposure to data platforms supporting machine learning workflows
• Experience designing systems for observability, monitoring, and fault tolerance
