If you want to be part of tomorrow’s health today, we want to hear from you.Senior FinOps Analyst – Optimization & AutomationPosition Summary (Purpose of Job)The Senior FinOps Analyst – Optimization & Automation is responsible for driving enterprise-wide cloud cost optimization, financial accountability, and automation maturity across McKesson’s cloud environments.This role leads the identification, prioritization, and execution oversight of optimization initiatives, ensuring measurable financial impact and alignment with enterprise objectives.
The position serves as a key partner to Engineering, Platform, and Finance teams—translating cloud usage into actionable financial insights and enabling cost-efficient decision-making.Operating with a high degree of independence, this role contributes to the advancement of McKesson’s FinOps capabilities by standardizing processes, scaling automation, and improving cost transparency and governance across AWS and Azure environments.Key ResponsibilitiesCloud Cost Optimization & Value RealizationIdentify, prioritize, and oversee execution of cloud cost optimization opportunities across enterprise platformsOwn the end-to-end optimization lifecycle, including opportunity identification, execution tracking, and validation of realized savingsDrive optimization strategies, including rightsizing, pricing optimization, and commitment-based savings (e.g., Reserved Instances, Savings Plans)Establish and maintain KPIs, metrics, and reporting to track optimization performance and financial impactEnsure optimization efforts align with enterprise financial targets and FinOps best practicesAutomation & Process EnablementDefine requirements for scalable, policy-driven optimization workflows and automation capabilitiesPartner with Engineering teams to design and implement automation solutions that reduce manual effortDrive improvements in time-to-value, optimization coverage, and operational efficiencySupport the evolution of FinOps automation strategy and long-term scalability initiativesFinOps Platform Ownership & ReportingServe as functional owner/administrator for cloud cost management platforms (e.g., Cloudability, CloudHealth, AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management)Manage configurations, allocation logic, dashboards, reporting structures, and KPI trackingEnsure data accuracy, auditability, and compliance with financial governance standardsIdentify gaps and drive enhancements in tools, dashboards, and reporting capabilitiesStakeholder Collaboration & GovernanceProvide data-driven insights to support financial accountability and decision-making across Engineering and FinancePartner cross-functionally to drive adoption of cost optimization practices and resolve execution challengesPresent optimization performance, savings outcomes, and trends to leadership and governance forumsSupport ongoing governance processes, including KPI reviews, funding discussions, and executive reportingMinimum RequirementsTypically requires 10+ years of relevant experience; less may be required with advanced degreeCritical Skills5–8+ years of experience in FinOps, cloud financial management, or cloud cost optimizationDemonstrated success delivering measurable, validated cloud cost savingsExperience working with AWS and/or Azure cloud environmentsHands-on experience with FinOps or cloud cost management toolsStrong analytical skills with the ability to translate technical data into business and financial insightsProven ability to collaborate across Engineering, Platform, and Finance teamsExperience supporting or designing automation and policy-driven optimization workflowsKnowledge of FinOps operating models, governance structures, and best practicesFinOps Practitioner certification or equivalent experience preferredAdditional QualificationsOperates independently with broad accountability for outcomesInfluences strategy, tooling, and FinOps maturity across the organizationDrives complex, enterprise-level initiativesActs as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholdersWe are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson as part of our Total Rewards.
