Pay

Pay range: $17.94 – $21.53 per hour.

Eligibility and Requirements

• Must have a high school diploma or GED and minimal experience in street and ground maintenance and repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
• Required to obtain a Virginia Class B commercial driver's license, Registered Technician for Pesticide Applicator certification within one year of employment.

Special Requirements

• VDOT intermediate Work Zone Certification must be acquired within two years of hire.
• Valid commercial driver's license with Class B endorsement in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Responsibilities

The position performs intermediate, semiskilled work maintaining Town streets, grounds, rights‑of‑way, buildings, and related work as apparent or assigned. Functions include maintaining, repairing, replacing, and inspecting streets, stormwater infrastructure, and sidewalks, maintaining streets, snow‑removal operations, managing vegetation and landscaping in public areas, maintaining drainage systems, installing signs, general grounds upkeep, and providing prompt response to emergencies. Operates and maintains heavy equipment including backhoe, dump trucks, rubber tire loader, mini excavator, skid steer, boom axe, tractors with implements, and vibratory rollers.

Maintains safety protocols and VDOT, municipal safety standards compliance. Works periodic rotating shifts to nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies. Assists other crews as assigned and performs all other duties as assigned.

Additional duties may be assigned related to technician's specialties.

Special Physical Requirements

This work requires frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force, frequent use of hand tools, standing, walking, pushing or pulling, occasional sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, lifting, and repetitive motions. Must be able to use PPE, self-contained breathing apparatus, mandatory self-contained breathing apparatus and must wear appropriate PPE, including Hepatitis B vaccines required. Working conditions include wet humid conditions (non-weather), outdoor to climate-controlled environments, heavy traffic with high noise exposure, near moving mechanical parts, confined spaces, high precarious places, potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles, bloodborne pathogens, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.

Must comply with OSHA regulations, Town safety policies, and use PPE.
