Job DescriptionJob DescriptionBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. A part-time contract opportunity is available for a Teacher of the Visually Impaired to serve as an itinerant specialist supporting multiple school sites.
The position focuses on empowering both students and educators by providing expertise across braille instruction, assistive technology, and strategies for successful classroom integration. This role can be fulfilled virtually, offering flexibility for talented professionals.Key Qualifications:Current Florida Educator Certification is mandatoryPrior experience teaching students with visual impairments in K-12 settingsStrong understanding of braille literacy, adaptive technology, and individualized instructional planningAbility to coach and mentor school-based staff unfamiliar with visual impairment best practicesExcellent communication and organizational skills to manage multiple sites virtuallyAbility to obtain required fingerprint clearance (prior prints through AHCA Clearinghouse may be accepted)Role Responsibilities:Collaborate with teaching staff and administration to assess student needs and recommend instructional strategiesProvide targeted, intensive support at the start of the school year, gradually tapering as staff proficiency growsTrain educators in braille, assistive technology, and instructional adjustment for full accessOffer consultative guidance with particular attention to complex student cases and consistency across schoolsWork alongside district TVIs to supplement, not replace, direct student servicesThe assignment begins on August 10, 2026, and runs through May 28, 2027, with a flexible commitment of approximately 12-15 hours per week.
