Role Summary
The Technical Analyst will work across Product, Engineering, Architecture, QE, Delivery and business SMEs to define delivery-ready requirements for complex digital and eCommerce change. The role requires strong systems thinking, discovery discipline, technical curiosity and the ability to challenge weak problem statements. The “Good to Great” hiring profile describes the Technical BA mission as turning ambiguity into useful, testable and technically‑aware outcomes, with strength in APIs, data flows, edge cases, non‑functional requirements and operational impacts.
Key Responsibilities
Requirements and analysis
- Elicit, analyse and document business, functional and non‑functional requirements.
- Understand customer, business, operational and technology needs.
- Clarify problem statements, business impact and expected outcomes.
- Translate high‑level scope into epics, user stories, acceptance criteria and supporting analysis artefacts.
- Ensure requirements are clear, complete, consistent, testable and aligned to delivery outcomes.
- Identify gaps, conflicts, ambiguities and unresolved decisions in requirements.
- Capture business rules, system behaviours, data needs, error scenarios and exception paths.
- Analyse current‑state and future‑state processes, systems and data flows.
- Support process re‑engineering by identifying opportunities to simplify and improve existing ways of working.
Technical analysis
- Work confidently with complex technology environments, including back end systems, APIs, microservices, integration points, databases and cloud‑based services.
- Support gap analysis across current and future‑state systems.
- Document data mapping, integration behaviours and downstream impacts.
- Identify edge cases, operational impacts and non‑functional requirements.
- Work with engineers and architects to ensure requirements are technically understood and implementable.
- Support technical trade‑off discussions by making business, customer and operational impacts clear.
Backlog and squad delivery
- Create and maintain epics, features, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Support backlog refinement, estimation and planning.
- Work with Product Leads to ensure priorities are understood and requirements are sequenced appropriately.
- Communicate requirements clearly to squads.
- Support engineers and QEs with clarification during build and test.
- Help maintain sprint health by ensuring upcoming work is sufficiently understood and ready.
- Track assumptions, risks, issues, dependencies and decisions.
- Ensure analysis outputs are maintained and accessible in agreed project tools.
Quality and testability
- Partner with QE Leads and Quality Engineers to ensure requirements are testable.
- Support identification of test scenarios, edge cases and acceptance criteria.
- Ensure non‑functional requirements are considered, including reliability, performance, security, privacy, observability, supportability and operational readiness.
- Support solution assessment and validation against agreed requirements.
- Help reduce rework by identifying unclear or incomplete requirements early.
Stakeholder engagement
- Facilitate workshops, discovery sessions, showcases and analysis conversations.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Align stakeholders on requirements, assumptions, trade‑offs and open decisions.
- Influence without authority across Product, Engineering, Architecture, QE Delivery, Operations and business SMEs.
- Escalate decision gaps, ownership gaps and risks early.
- Maintain transparency across squad and project channels.
Documentation
- Create and maintain useful, delivery‑focused documentation.
- Produce artefacts such as process flows, domain models, workflows, use stories, interface notes, data mapping, decision logs and current/future‑state summaries.
- Ensure documentation is lightweight, accessible and accurate.
- Support handover to delivery, support and run teams where required.
Required Experience
- Technical analysis, business analysis or system analysis in complex technology environments
- Working with agile delivery teams
- Writing epics, user stories and acceptance criteria
- Eliciting and documenting functional and non‑functional requirements
- Facilitating workshops, discovery sessions and refinement conversations
- Working with engineers, architects, QEs, delivery leads and product stakeholders
- Analysing current‑state and future‑state business processes and system behaviour
- Working with APIs, integrations, data flows, microservices, databases or back‑end systems
- Identifying requirement gaps, ambiguous scope and conflicting stakeholder needs
- Supporting delivery across multiple systems, teams or domains
- Creating documentation that enable build, test release and support
Required skills and capabilities

Technical Skills
- Understanding of APIs, integrations and system interactions.
- Understanding of data flows, mapping and downstream impacts.
- Awareness of microservices and cloud‑based technology environments.
- Ability to work with technical stakeholders to clarify implementation considerations.
- Understanding of non‑functional requirements, including performance, reliability, security, privacy, supportability and operational readiness.
- Ability to identify edge cases, exception scenarios and failure modes.
Qualifications
- Appropriate tertiary qualification and/or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience in business analysis, technical analysis, systems analysis, product analysis or a related technology delivery role.
- Agile delivery experience is required.
- Experience in digital, eCommerce, retail, platform engineering or large‑scale transformation environments is highly desirable.
- Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Miro, Visio, Lucidchart or equivalent documentation and delivery tooling is desirable.
