Job Description
Job Title Perform a broad range of difficult technical work in the service, diagnosis and repair to all systems of specialized medium, heavy-duty gas- and diesel-powered generators, to include automatic transfer switches and other associated equipment, with a heavy emphasis on diesel engines Essential Job Duties Troubleshoot, test, diagnose, adjust, repair and service a variety of emergency standby generators. Repair, overhaul and maintain both electrical and mechanical equipment. Fabricate, service and repair equipment as needed.
Perform precision adjustment and calibration using varied measuring devices. Use hand or power tools and hoists, including a truck mounted hoist for field repair to install, remove, disassemble/assemble or adjust parts and replace units. Provide input in areas for new and replacement tools, equipment, and refurbish existing equipment as requested.
Diagnose repair and oversee maintenance of seventy-six diesel powered generators. Order and stock required spare parts, maintain inventory. Oversee and schedule work of other generator technicians Ability to use a personal computer.
Perform general and major repair of other City equipment as required. Perform preventative maintenance. Comprehensive knowledge of the construction, design, repair, and adjustment of a wide variety of specialized medium and heavy-duty equipment.
Perform other job functions as required. Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis. Performs all functions and responsibilities according to the Palm Beach County Code of Ethics and Florida State Statutes 112.313.
Minimum Qualifications High school graduate or an equivalency diploma with five (5) years experience in performing master level mechanical/electrical repair work. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record. Class B CDL with tanker endorsement, or ability to get within six months of employment.
Thorough knowledge in repairs of diesel engines, ASC certification preferable but not required. Strong organizational skills as well as familiarity with procurement of products and services. Thorough knowledge of the usual types of tools and equipment, as well as the special tools, gauges, machinery, and analyzing equipment used in the repair, service and maintenance of gas and diesel driven equipment.
Ability to detect by inspection any worn, defective or improperly adjusted part of an assembly. The ability to lift articles weighing more than fifty (50) pounds. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to keep accurate and timely records of repair and service operations.
