Job Description
Position The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part‑time Lecturer pool in Vietnamese Studies to teach undergraduate courses in Vietnamese language, culture, business, art, literature, linguistics, and/or film.
Areas of Specialization
Vietnamese Language—Introductory to Advanced
Vietnamese Culture, Civilization, and Contemporary Vietnam
Vietnamese for Business
Vietnamese Literature
Vietnamese Linguistics
Vietnamese Film
Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available. Appointments from the part‑time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.
Required Qualifications
Hold at least a master’s degree in Vietnamese Studies or a related field with native‑like fluency in Vietnamese to teach lower‑division (100‑ and 200‑level) courses, or hold a Ph.D. (or be a Ph.D. candidate) in Vietnamese Studies or a related field with native‑like fluency in Vietnamese to teach upper‑division (300‑level) courses.
Demonstrate the ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first‑generation college students.
Have legal right to work in the United States; California State University, Fullerton cannot sponsor part‑time faculty for work visas or permanent residence.
Reside in the State of California at the time of hiring. This requirement cannot be waived, even for online courses.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and evidence of strong teaching.
Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
Relevant work experience and professional capabilities.
Appointment and Salary
All part‑time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association. Initial appointments are for one semester only.
Classification Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per month.
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $6,221 per month.
For a three‑unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.
Performance Evaluation Regular performance evaluations are made by the department in accordance with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. These evaluations determine which lecturers will be retained for future teaching assignments.
