Description
As a member of the health care team, the Registered Dietitian is responsible for the nutrition assessment of patients. Dietitians develop and implement nutrition care plans in order to provide medical nutrition therapy as well as evaluate and adjust treatment as necessary. In addition to patient education, the Registered Dietitian participates in the education of co-workers, including resident physicians and outpatient education at off-campus clinic sites.
Approximate Salary
Registered Dietitian I: $19.16 - $28.14 hourly
Registered Dietitian II: $20.48 - $30.14 hourly

Educational Incentive
Possible educational incentive of 5% based on completion of Master’s degree or higher.
Bilingual Incentive
Possible Bilingual incentive depending on the applicable MOA and the needs of the department.

Registered Dietitian I/II are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation.
Note
This class is within a bargaining unit that is subject to an “agency shop” arrangement, which mandates all regular employees either join Local 721 of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and pay dues as a member, or pay either a “service fee” to Local 721 or direct that an amount equivalent to the “service fee” be distributed to a qualified charitable organization.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future regular, temporary, fixed-term, intermittent and extra-help vacancies for this position within Health Care Agency.

Examples Of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Performs Nutrition Assessments and therapy.
- Determines acuity level for each patient, based upon nutrition assessment.
- Documents assessments and pertinent nutrition information in the medical record.
- Assesses appropriateness of diet order, advise nurse/physician on clinical efficacy of diet order and recommend changes as needed.
- Advises the medical team regarding recommendations for enteral and parenteral nutrition support.
- Monitors tolerance to nutrition support and make recommendations for optimal support based on the patient's individualized needs.
- Calculates nutritional intake and assess nutritional adequacy.
- Participates in interdisciplinary patient care conferences.
- Advises Diet Technicians and Diet Aides on processing diet orders, calculating menu adjustments and mixing enteral formulas.
- Educates in-patients and out-patients, including conducting classes.
- Educates Family Medicine Residents and attending medical staff on nutritional issues.
- Writes clinical policies and procedures related to clinical nutrition practices.
- Reviews and revise diet manual.
- Participates in ongoing monitoring of performance improvement for clinical nutrition practice.

Education, Training, And Experience
Registered Dietitian I
Possession of a Bachelor's degree with a major in nutrition, dietetics or a related field, required. Also required: completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education (CADE) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics; and, completion of a pre-professional (post-Bachelor's dietetic internship or coordinated program) experience approved by the American Dietetic Association (ADA);and, current ADA Registration as a Dietitian including completion of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in compliance with maintaining an "Active" status to meet ADA registration requirements.
The Department may also consider applicants who are “Registered Dietitian (RD) eligible", that is, who: (1) possess a Bachelor’s degree; (2) have completed an ADA-approved internship, or ADA-approved coordinated program; (3) possess a certificate of completion indicating their Registered Dietitian eligibility; and, (4) plan to take the RD exam within the next three to six months.
Registered Dietitian II
All requirements for the Registered Dietitian I and two (2) years of clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian.

Candidates successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
