TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
\n Full Dome / Immersive Media Production Remote Dublin-Based Production ASAP through November Contract
Algorithm is a Dublin-based production company creating immersive media for hemispherical Full Dome projection. We are seeking a mid-level Technical Director to join us on an August–November contract, working under the Digital Imaging Supervisor on a production where the primary work is shot production and rendering, with opportunities to contribute to pipeline support as needs arise. This is a technically hands-on role for someone who takes pride in the craft of CG production and knows their way around a complex scene.
Responsibilities\n- \n
- Execute shot production across the project — building, lighting, and rendering scenes in Maya with Redshift to the standard and schedule set by the Digital Imaging Supervisor. \n
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in scene files, shading, lighting, and render output with minimal supervision. \n
- Optimise scenes for render efficiency, balancing quality and performance across a range of asset types. \n
- Collaborate with the Digital Imaging Supervisor on adapting CG assets for Full Dome projection, applying sound technical judgment to format-specific challenges. \n
- Contribute to pipeline support as needed — assisting with tools, scripts, or workflow improvements that keep production moving. \n
- Maintain clean, well-organised scene files and adhere to production naming conventions and handoff standards. \n
- Communicate clearly on task status, technical blockers, and delivery timelines. \n
- \n
- 3–5 years of production experience as a Technical Director or similar role in animation, VFX, or immersive media. \n
- Strong, demonstrable proficiency in Autodesk Maya and Redshift — lighting, shading, rendering, and scene optimisation. \n
- Familiarity with broader DCC pipelines and a working knowledge of at least one scripting language (Python preferred) for tool or workflow support. \n
- Solid problem-solving instincts: able to diagnose and resolve technical issues independently and communicate them clearly. \n
- Experience working within a supervised pipeline; responsive to direction and comfortable adapting to evolving production requirements. \n
- Knowledge of Unreal Engine is a plus. Curiosity about immersive formats and non-standard projection is welcome — prior dome experience is not required. \n
Location: Fully Remote. Dublin-based production; overlap with Irish working hours (GMT/IST) expected.
Engagement: Project contract, August through end of November.
Reports To: Digital Imaging Supervisor.
We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
