Job DescriptionJob DescriptionWe are partnering with a well‑established, privately held organization near Annapolis, Maryland to identify a hands‑on Assistant Controller. This is an on‑site role supporting a complex accounting environment with multiple revenue streams, fund/account structures, and operational interdependencies. The position reports directly to senior finance leadership and plays a key role in day‑to‑day accounting execution, month‑end close, and financial oversight.This opportunity is ideal for a detail‑oriented accounting professional who enjoys technical depth, ownership of processes, and working closely with operations in a non‑corporate setting.Key ResponsibilitiesManage and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processPrepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedulesOversee general ledger activity across multiple entities and/or fundsAssist with preparation of internal and external financial statementsSupport budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysisEnsure GAAP compliance and strong internal controlsPartner with external auditors and support audit requestsAssist with cash management, fixed assets, and complex accrualsIdentify and implement process improvements within the accounting functionServe as a key backup to the Controller and mentor junior accounting staff as needed Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)5–8+ years of progressive accounting experienceExperience in complex accounting environments (multi‑entity, fund accounting, or highly transactional operations preferred)Strong working knowledge of GAAPAdvanced Excel skills; experience with accounting systems/ERPsCPA or CPA‑track strongly preferredComfortable working in a fully on‑site environmentDetail‑driven, organized, and comfortable operating with minimal structure
