Assistant Professor (Electrochemistry)
Atria University
Job Description
Role Mandate and Mission
Atria University is seeking an exceptional and hands-on Electrochemist to serve as a faculty member with a mandate to perform electrochemistry R&D within the University’s energy-water-nexus lab, which falls under the Energy CoE.
The successful candidate will own the scientific performance of our work in desalination and green hydrogen. As a "builder-scientist," you will be responsible for the fundamental chemistry that enables this system and various subsystems: membranes, catalysts, electrodes etc.
This role will involve
- Modelling and Simulations
- Testing, characterization and benchmarking
- Membrane / catalyst / electrode development
- Scale-up of own solutions
- Identification of partners
- Identification of commercial alternatives
- Diagnosis of degradation mechanisms
- Development of IP portfolio
- Writing of research grants
While mostly being associated with the university's focused projects, Atria University encourages you to also build an adjacent research portfolio in areas such as green hydrogen, industrial electrolysis, or resource recovery. This dual mandate ensures that your translational work is grounded in a vibrant academic environment, providing opportunities for competitive grants and scholarly publications that enhance both your career and the University’s reputation.
Teaching: You will also deliver undergraduate or graduate courses in subjects such as Chemistry, Hydrogen / Fuel Cells and related topics, and you will supervise student researchers working on project-linked innovations.
We are looking for candidates with a PhD in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field. You must demonstrate a proven "builder" mindset with substantial hands-on experience in building and troubleshooting electrochemical systems (e.g. fuel cells / electrolyzers)
Desirable: PhD in global (US/ EU) research institutions, strong publication record in high-impact journals; 2-3 years of academic or industrial experience.
Candidates must show evidence of exceptional technical judgment, the potential for teaching excellence, and a strong track record of personally executing complex experimental work.
Candidates who demonstrate a record of leadership in multidisciplinary research, successful student supervision, and a history of securing external funding or industry partnerships can be considered for an associate professor position as well.
Joining Atria University offers the chance to work at the forefront of climate-positive technology alongside recognized academic and industrial leaders. We provide a protected research environment that values translational research extensively. This is more than a faculty position; it is an invitation to build a lasting legacy as a science entrepreneur.
Salary: In line with UGC recommendation, with a variable pay tied to external (e.g. consulting / IP) revenue brought into the CoE
