EXHIBITION PROJECT MANAGER Full-time, Permanent Kent Monkman is an interdisciplinary Cree visual artist. A member of Fisher River Cree Nation in Treaty 5 Territory (Manitoba), he lives and works in Dish With One Spoon Territory (Toronto, Canada). Known for his provocative interventions into Western European and American art history, Monkman explores themes of colonization, sexuality, loss, and resilience—the complexities of historic and contemporary Indigenous experiences—across painting, film/video, performance, and installation.

Position Overview Reporting to the Director, Exhibitions and Projects, the Exhibition Project Manager plays a key role in the planning, coordination, and delivery of exhibitions and other studio projects. Working closely with the Director, this position supports the successful execution of projects on schedule and in alignment with Kent Monkman’s artistic vision and goals. This role focuses primarily on coordinating projects with external museum and gallery partners, while also supporting the delivery of internal studio exhibitions.
It brings together creative, administrative, and organizational work to ensure projects run smoothly and efficiently. Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Execution Collaborate with the Director, Exhibitions and Projects to plan and execute exhibitions and projects from inception through completion. Work closely with the Director, Exhibitions and Projects on the development of exhibition and project proposals, and digital exhibitions to support new bodies of work.
Coordinate with external partners, including museum and gallery teams, curators, and exhibition designers to support project delivery. Develop project plans, including detailed timelines, milestones, and step-by-step deliverables. Track project progress, ensuring deadlines are met and helping to address delays or challenges as they arise.
Maintain clear communication across internal teams and external partners regarding timelines, priorities, and updates. Coordinate internal studio exhibitions in collaboration with the Studio Director, ensuring that artworks and supporting materials are completed on schedule. Budgeting, Contracts & Resource Management Support the development and management of project budgets in collaboration with the Director, Exhibitions and Projects.
Track expenses and budget reporting. Coordinate invoices and payments to vendors in collaboration with the accounting team, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Assist the Director, Exhibitions and Projects with the review and development of project contracts; help ensure contractual deliverables are met.
Oversee all loan agreements, condition reports, and incoming/outgoing shipments for exhibitions in coordination with the Sales and Collections Manager. Support vendor coordination and procurement processes as required. Support the Director, Exhibitions and Projects in identifying grant opportunities and preparing grant applications, including drafting narratives, assembling supporting materials, and tracking submission deadlines and reporting requirements.
Cross-Functional Coordination Act as a liaison between departments including creative, production, and administrative teams to support project execution. Help translate project goals into clear tasks and timelines. Support the Director, Exhibitions and Projects with planning and special initiatives as needed.
Help identify opportunities to improve processes and project coordination. Implement the use of tools and systems to track projects and maintain organization (e.g., project management platforms). Contribute to a collaborative and organized working environment.
Project Oversight & Delivery Take ownership of day-to-day project coordination and communication, ensuring all moving parts are aligned and progressing according to plan. Keep Studio team and external stakeholders informed on project status. Anticipate challenges and proactively identify solutions to keep projects on track.
Maintain clear documentation of project status, decisions, and deliverables. Ensure a high standard of organization and follow-through across all phases of project delivery. Knowledge and Expertise Minimum 3–5+ years of experience managing or coordinating projects, ideally within a visual art, design, or museum context; Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects; Familiarity with contracts, invoicing, vendors, and basic financial coordination; Extremely high level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills; Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Asana or similar platforms), Microsoft Office, and Google Suite including complex spreadsheets; Experience preparing pitch decks and proposals; Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and SketchUp for 3D exhibition planning would be an asset; Knowledge of contemporary art and novel exhibition strategies; Ability to take initiative, stay organized, and adapt in a fast-paced environment; Commitment to contributing to a positive and collaborative team culture.
Hours of Work 35 hours per week; Monday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. (four-day, in-office schedule). Compensation Commensurate with experience ($65,000 - $75,000 per annum) and includes comprehensive health and dental benefits. The salary range represents the expected annual base salary for this role.
