Finance Manager

VSSL is intentionally building a lean finance function designed to scale through systems, automation, and AI. The Finance Manager owns all core finance responsibilities end-to-end, while simultaneously designing a smarter, more automated way of working.

This role is both foundational and forward-looking. The successful candidate will ensure the business runs cleanly and accurately today, while building the infrastructure that allows VSSL to grow in complexity, revenue, and geography without building a traditional finance team.

Automation and AI are essential tools for increasing capacity, reducing manual work, and enabling continuous improvement.

You will work directly with the CEO and leadership team to shape how VSSL plans, measures, and executes the business over the next several years.

What You Will Own

Core Finance & Accounting (End-to-End)

• Own day-to-day finance operations including full-cycle accounting, month-end close, and timely financial reporting
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including credit policies and collections
• Oversee payroll, benefits administration, and related compliance
• Manage weekly cash flow forecasting and working capital visibility
• Own budgeting, rolling forecasts, and scenario modeling
• Prepare management reporting including KPIs, variance analysis, and performance insights
• Manage tax obligations (Federal, Provincial, and State) and coordinate with external partners for audits and filings

Operational Excellence, Automation & AI

• Architect a highly automated finance function designed to scale without adding incremental headcount
• Identify, implement, and continuously improve AI-driven tools and workflows for:
• Accounts payable and receivable automation
• Cash application, collections, and reconciliation
• Management reporting, dashboards, and variance analysis
• Multi-entity, cross-border accounting and consolidation
• Integrate finance systems across a global operating footprint (Canada, U.S., and international partners)
• Continuously evaluate emerging AI and automation solutions that can increase speed, accuracy, and insight
• Free up capacity – your own and others’ – to focus on higher-value work, decision support, and strategic initiatives

Profitability & Cost Leadership

• Be relentless in identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency across the business
• Drive COGS reduction initiatives, gross margin optimization, and OPEX discipline
• Build models and frameworks to support pricing, assortment, inventory, and channel decisions
• Serve as a thought partner to leadership on revenue growth, EBITDA improvement, and long-term financial targets

Who We Are Looking For

Experience & Skills

• 5+ years of experience in full-cycle accounting and finance management roles
• Strong grasp of cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with data and models
• Experience in consumer goods, wholesale, and ecommerce environments strongly preferred
• Experience with QuickBooks and Cin7 is a strong asset
• Comfortable working in a lean, fast-paced environment with evolving priorities
