Griffdon Engineering
Job Description
Reports to: Financial Controller Location: Ballaghaderreen — On Site
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Griffdon Engineering
Griffdon Engineering Ltd is a leading electrical engineering and utility services contractor delivering large-scale projects across Ireland, the UK, and Europe. Since 2001, we have built a reputation for excellence in electrical installations, utility infrastructure, data centres, renewable energy, and mission-critical construction projects.
The role
You will own the month-end close and the integrity of the balance sheet, working directly with the Financial Controller and deputising for them as you establish yourself. This is a broad technical role in a business where the numbers are complex and the pace is high — contract accounting, a large payroll presence and construction-specific tax treatment all run through your work.
There is a clear route from here to a senior finance position as the business continues to grow.
Key responsibilities:
Month-end and reporting
- Own the month-end close process and the close timetable, ensuring deadlines are met to a consistent standard
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments and provisions
- Prepare and review the balance sheet reconciliations, with full ownership of control account discipline
- Review the payroll journal and reconcile payroll control accounts
Technical and compliance
- Prepare and file VAT returns, including the VAT reverse charge on construction services
- Manage RCT obligations — contract and payment notifications, deduction authorisations and reconciliation of the RCT account with Revenue's records
- Ensure the correct treatment of agency labour supply versus subcontractor arrangements, working with our external tax advisors
- Prepare returns and filings including (VIES, Intrastat, CSO, RCT, other as applicable)
- Maintain the fixed asset register and lease accounting
Audit and statutory
- Prepare the annual audit file and act as the primary point of contact for the external auditors
- Prepare statutory financial statements under FRS 102
- Maintain and strengthen the financial control environment, including segregation of duties across the purchase and payment cycles
Wider contribution
- Support cash flow forecasting and working capital management
- Assist with contract reporting — work in progress, retentions and cost to complete
- Deputise for the Financial Controller as required
- Contribute to systems and process improvement projects as the finance function scales
What we are looking for:
- ACA, ACCA, CPA or CIMA qualified
- Strong technical grounding in month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and statutory reporting
- Confident with VAT and general Irish tax compliance
- Strong Excel and comfortable working with a mid-tier ERP or accounting system
- Well organised and able to hold a deadline in a business that moves quickly
- Able to communicate clearly with non-finance colleagues across operations, site and commercial teams
Advantageous, but not essential
- Experience in construction, contracting, engineering or another project-based business
- Familiarity with RCT, the VAT reverse charge and contract or WIP accounting
- Exposure to a high-volume weekly payroll environmentExperience of a systems implementation or finance process improvement project
We are equally interested in candidates from practice looking to make their first move into industry and candidates with two to three years of post-qualification industry experience. Construction knowledge can be taught — we are more interested in technical strength, judgement and the appetite to take ownership.
What we offer
- Pension contribution, health insurance, life cover
- Support for CPD
- Genuine scope for progression in a business that is growing quickly
