Job Description
Job Overview
The Health & Safety (H&S) Specialist provides health and safety guidance, support, and training to the manufacturing operations at the Toronto facility, ensuring continuous improvement of health and safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage policies, procedures and reporting systems for the Manufacturing Safety program, reviewing them to ensure consistency with industry standards, legislation, and company needs.
- Maintain records of third‑party contracts relevant to health, safety and environmental issues (e.g., ISNetworld, Avetta).
- Produce monthly safety documentation analysis and statistics.
- Perform safety monitoring, interpret data, prepare written reports documenting methodology, observations, results and recommendations.
- Review incident investigation reports, suggest corrective actions and assist in development of corrective plans.
- Research and stay current with health and safety industry trends; identify opportunities for program innovation.
- Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee, encouraging worker input.
- Conduct internal manufacturing safety inspections and audits, following up with corrective actions.
- Participate in manufacturing meetings to discuss workplace safety and regulatory concerns.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Studies or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working within EHS capacity.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of safety work practices and the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proven ability to coach, train, and mentor diverse audiences.
- Flexibility to provide health and safety support on day and afternoon shifts as needed.
Physical Effort and Work Environment
Normal or frequent minor physical effort, including standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, and lifting or moving objects or equipment up to 20 lbs. Acceptable working environment with minor or occasional undesirable events.
Compensation & Benefits
Annual base salary range: $96,778 – $128,225. Eligible for an annual incentive plan with a target bonus of 5% of annual base earnings. Benefits include:
