Job DescriptionVacancy ID : 041526 Closing Date : 07-Sep-2026 12:00 Vacancy: 041526 - Hourly Paid Assistant Lecturer (HPAL) - OT Cybersecurity & Penetration Testing Contract: Casual Part Time - 3 years Salary: Hourly Paid Assistant Lecturer rate: €75.51 per hour (based on rates effective 1 June 2026) Located within the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, the Extended Campus Department operates as a dedicated unit focused on the design and delivery of work-based learning programmes in collaboration with a diverse range of industry partners, including Horse Racing Ireland, Irish Defence Forces, Dublin Fire Brigade, LASNTG, Lloyds Pharmacy Ireland, and ESB Training Networks. The department offers a fast-paced, dynamic, and professional working environment, delivering a broad portfolio of academic programmes that lead to major, minor, and special purpose awards across Levels 6 to 9 on the NFQ. These programmes are designed with flexibility and industry relevance at their core, supporting lifelong learning and workforce development.
The HPAL is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching on the principles, strategies, and hands-on practices of securing Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) networks, and performing specialised penetration testing within the MSc and Certificate in Industrial Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure (ICCI). The role involves developing and delivering engaging learning experiences that provide learners with a deep understanding of cyber-physical risks, security frameworks, and defensive/offensive security tactics specific to critical infrastructure. As many learners are expected to be employed within industrial automation, energy, utilities, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, transport, and Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) sectors, the successful candidate will adopt a practice-focused approach, integrating real-world threat intelligence, industrial standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 27001, ISA/IEC 62443, CyFun), hands-on lab environments, and industry case studies throughout the module.
