IB DP Physics Teacher
Omniscience Education
Oeiras, PT Full Time Education Jobs New
Job Description
Physics Educational Engineer
At Omniscience, teaching is inseparable from strategy. You will not deliver a syllabus to a class of thirty; you will design, execute, and continuously refine a complete educational pathway in Physics for each student in your care, as part of a coordinated team working towards exceptional results.
The successful candidate will:
- Design personalised educational pathways in Physics for each student: the academic route, the sequencing of the course's themes, target outcomes, and preparation strategy from enrolment through to final IB examinations and university entry. This includes the judgement of when a student's ambitions warrant Higher Level and the additional demands that carries.
- Deliver the IB Diploma Programme Physics course (Higher and Standard Level) through one-to-one and small-group instruction. You will teach the full breadth of the course and the additional higher-level material, build the experimental and data-handling fluency the course now expects, and adapt pace, depth, and method to the individual student.
- Coordinate with mathematics colleagues where a student's Physics pathway depends on it. A student's Physics HL trajectory cannot be planned in isolation from their Mathematics route; you will help ensure the two cohere rather than quietly work against each other.
- Operate as part of each student's educational team. Every student at Omniscience is supported by an Educational Project Manager, who leads strategy coordination and all communication with the family, and by subject colleagues teaching the rest of the student's programme. You will contribute your subject expertise to the collective strategy, maintain full visibility of your students' progress for the team, and participate in regular team reviews, so that the student's whole programme coheres, not merely your part of it.
- Develop bespoke teaching tools and materials where existing resources are insufficient for a student's particular needs or ambitions, including the practical and modelling work that a one-to-one setting can do far better than a full laboratory class.
- Monitor and evidence student progress through structured assessment and predicted-grade tracking, producing the rigorous academic reporting on which both the team's strategy and the family's confidence depend.
- Supervise the individual scientific investigation, the Collaborative Sciences Project, and Extended Essays in Physics, and align scientific preparation with university ambitions in engineering, physics, and the mathematical and physical sciences.
- Contribute to institutional standards as a member of the senior teaching staff, shaping how Omniscience designs and quality-assures its academic programmes.
Requirements:
Essential:
- A minimum of five years' experience teaching IB Diploma Programme Physics (HL and SL) at an IB World School; international school experience strongly preferred.
- A demonstrable record of strong IB results, including with students of differing starting points.
- Proven experience designing individualised learning plans or significantly differentiated programmes of study, not solely whole-class delivery.
- Comprehensive command of the current IB Physics guide, the individual scientific investigation and its assessment criteria, and the Extended Essay in Physics, with the confidence to teach students who have arrived with uneven mathematical preparation.
- Fluency with the experimental side of the course: uncertainty and error analysis, the treatment of data, and the standard of evaluation the investigation now rewards.
- Experience using assessment data to diagnose, plan, and evidence student progress.
- A genuine collaborator: able to align your teaching with a shared strategy, communicate progress precisely to colleagues, and place the student's overall outcome above departmental territory.
- Excellent written and spoken English, including formal academic reporting.
- A degree in Physics or a closely related discipline, together with a recognised teaching qualification.
Highly Desirable
- Current or previous appointment as an IB examiner or moderator in Physics.
- Experience in one-to-one teaching, academic mentoring, or private educational consultancy.
- Familiarity with university admissions for engineering and the physical sciences in the UK, US, and Europe, including admissions assessments such as the PAT, ESAT, and TMUA.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Physics, education, or a related field.
- Proficiency with digital teaching, assessment, and progress-tracking platforms.
Terms of Appointment
- Full-time, permanent contract based at our headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal.
- Remuneration is highly competitive and commensurate with the seniority of the appointment.
- The professional environment of a senior specialist team: small cohorts, expert colleagues, and the time to practise your craft properly.
- Commencement date: 20 August 2026.
