Job Description
Mathematics IB Educational Engineer
Essential
At Omniscience, teaching is inseparable from strategy. You will not deliver a syllabus to a class of thirty; you will design, execute, and continuously refine a complete educational pathway in Mathematics for each student in your care, as part of a coordinated team working towards exceptional results.
The successful candidate will:
- Design personalised educational pathways in Mathematics for each student: the academic route, the sequencing of content, target outcomes, and preparation strategy from enrolment through to final IB examinations and university entry. The defining early decision is the choice of route and level, Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, at Higher or Standard Level, made against the student's intended degree rather than by default.
- Deliver the IB Diploma Programme Mathematics course across both routes and both levels through one-to-one and small-group instruction, adapting pace, depth, and method to the individual student, and building the fluency the higher-level papers, including the problem-solving paper, now demand.
- Coordinate with science and economics colleagues where a student's Mathematics route underpins the rest of their programme. A student's choice between Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation shapes what is possible in Physics, in Economics, and at university; you will help ensure those decisions are made together rather than in isolation.
- Operate as part of each student's educational team. Every student at Omniscience is supported by an Educational Project Manager, who leads strategy coordination and all communication with the family, and by subject colleagues teaching the rest of the student's programme. You will contribute your subject expertise to the collective strategy, maintain full visibility of your students' progress for the team, and participate in regular team reviews, so that the student's whole programme coheres, not merely your part of it.
- Develop bespoke teaching tools and materials where existing resources are insufficient for a student's particular needs or ambitions, from targeted remediation of foundational gaps to extension work for students aiming well beyond the syllabus.
- Monitor and evidence student progress through structured assessment and predicted-grade tracking, producing the rigorous academic reporting on which both the team's strategy and the family's confidence depend.
- Supervise the mathematical exploration and Extended Essays in Mathematics, and align mathematical preparation with university ambitions in mathematics, engineering, the physical sciences, economics, and computer science.
- Contribute to institutional standards as a member of the senior teaching staff, shaping how Omniscience designs and quality-assures its academic programmes.
Essential
- A minimum of five years' experience teaching IB Diploma Programme Mathematics at an IB World School; international school experience strongly preferred.
- The ability to teach across both Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, at Higher and Standard Level, and the judgement to advise students on which route serves their ambitions.
- A demonstrable record of strong IB results, including with students of differing starting points.
- Proven experience designing individualised learning plans or significantly differentiated programmes of study, not solely whole-class delivery.
- Comprehensive command of the current IB Mathematics guide, the mathematical exploration and its assessment criteria, and the Extended Essay in Mathematics.
- Fluency with the demands specific to each route: formal proof and algebraic rigour at Analysis and Approaches Higher Level, and modelling, statistics, and confident use of the graphic display calculator at Applications and Interpretation.
- Experience using assessment data to diagnose, plan, and evidence student progress.
- A genuine collaborator: able to align your teaching with a shared strategy, communicate progress precisely to colleagues, and place the student's overall outcome above departmental territory.
- Excellent written and spoken English, including formal academic reporting.
- A degree in Mathematics or a closely related discipline, together with a recognised teaching qualification.
- Current or previous appointment as an IB examiner or moderator in Mathematics.
- Experience in one-to-one teaching, academic mentoring, or private educational consultancy.
- Familiarity with university admissions for mathematics, engineering, and computer science in the UK, US, and Europe, including admissions assessments such as the MAT, STEP, and TMUA.
- Experience preparing able students for competition mathematics, or for admissions and degree courses that reach beyond the IB syllabus.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Mathematics, education, or a related field.
- Proficiency with digital teaching, assessment, and progress-tracking platforms.
- Full-time, permanent contract based at our headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal.
- Remuneration is highly competitive and commensurate with the seniority of the appointment.
- The professional environment of a senior specialist team: small cohorts, expert colleagues, and the time to practise your craft properly.
- Commencement date: 20 August 2026.
