Role: Intern – Software Engineer in Test. Location: downtown Toronto, Canada.

Responsibilities

• Develop automated test cases using the company testing framework for API and/or UI.
• Participate in functional, system, integration, and regression testing activities.
• Collaborate with Software Engineers and Product Managers to deliver a user experience that meets business needs.
• Create and improve documentation for test cases and automation test scripts.
• Become a Subject Matter Expert in defined test areas.
• Contribute to delivering enterprise applications for the Life Sciences industry with a focus on quality and reliability.
• Take ownership of key parts of the software to certify quality and correctness before delivery to customers.
• Utilize Java, JUnit, Unix, and MySQL (or equivalent database experience).
• Apply computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, OO design, software design) to testing tasks.
• Perform root cause analysis for defects found and drive remediation.
• Test web-based applications and participate in related testing activities.
• Build on a foundation of basic knowledge in automation tools, BDD testing frameworks, and familiarity with microservice architecture.

Qualifications

• Strong attention to detail with a proactive, self-starting attitude; comfortable handling technical challenges.
• Experience or coursework related to software testing, quality assurance, or internships/co-ops is a plus.
• Understanding of automation tools and BDD concepts is desirable.
• Basic knowledge of microservice architecture.
• Experience with Java, JUnit, Unix, and relational databases (e.g., MySQL) is preferred.
• Strong fundamentals in computer science (data structures, algorithms, OO design).
• Ability to conduct root-cause analysis and diagnose defects effectively.

• Base pay: 25 - 30 CAD/hour. The salary range complies with local regulations and may vary by experience and location. Additional compensation such as bonuses or stock may be available.
