Job Description Overview

Responsibilities
Perform conceptual and detailed design engineering work for CANDU reactor components in accordance with applicable codes, standards and procedures. This includes preparing design documents, technical reports, design calculations and drawings. Under supervision of senior engineers, and in adherence to project plans and schedules, support phases of engineering work such as proposal preparation, design engineering, testing, procurement, manufacturing and installation support.
Prepare responses to technical questions from reviewers or clients and report progress on day‑to‑day work to leads and managers. Develop and prepare technical documents such as engineering drawings, bills of materials, calculations, design specifications, design assessment reports, design requirements, design manuals, and technical specifications for testing, fabrication and site installation. Support the technical supervisor in preparing registration packages for pressure boundary designs and in interfaces with regulatory bodies such as TSSA and CNSC.
Perform reviews and design verification of the work of others, as qualifications allow.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from a university of recognized standing.
- Candidate must be licensed or soon eligible to be licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
- Mechanical design experience of 3 to 6 years.
- Experience in classical stress calculations.
- Experience following codes, standards and procedures.
- Training and experience in the application of GD&T is an asset.
- Proven record of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proven record of working independently and demonstrating problem‑solving skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Good time‑management skills.
- Drive for continuous learning.
