New Product Development Manager
Talent Destination
Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
Lead the prototyping and eventual commercialization of consumer electronic products. Primary focus will be working alongside internal technical specialists to build new and upgraded prototypes. Through this development, past experience in taking electronic devices from the prototype stage to full mass production will be critical.
It will ensure that early-stage designs account for Design for Manufacturing (DFM), reliability testing, and certification, preventing missteps. This profile will be critical during the transition to full mass production through Indian or overseas manufacturing partners.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Prototype Development:
- Lead and coordinate the building of new and upgraded device prototypes in collaboration with internal specialists (industrial design, PCBA, firmware, thermal engineering, and mechanical design).
Commercialization Strategy:
- Use hands-on experience from past product launches to design current prototypes for scalability and identify and mitigate manufacturing bottlenecks early in the development cycle.
Vendor Integration:
- Act as the primary technical liaison between the internal team and external manufacturing vendors, translating specialized requirements into actionable steps for both prototyping and mass production.
Process Oversight:
- Ensure that critical milestones—such as DFM, mold breaking, reliability testing, and certification—are factored into the prototype design phase and seamlessly executed.
Intellectual Property Support:
- Assist technical specialists with patent-related activities, utilizing a foundational understanding of patent filing, drafting, and opposition processes.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Primary Preference: B.Tech / B.E. in Mechatronics, Electronics & Communication (ECE), or Electrical Engineering. M.Tech. degree can be explored as well.
Secondary Preference: B.Tech / B.E. in Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
Target Institutions: Tier 1 (e.g., IITs, NITs, BITS) or Tier 2 engineering colleges.
EXPERIENCE
Target Industries: Experience of minimum 2-3 years in parallel industries such as Wearables, Portable Medical Devices, or IoT/Smart Home devices is highly desirable.
Candidate must be open to later transition into broader organizational roles, such as plant engineering services and plant operations.
SKILLS
- Vendor Management: Managing and guiding contract manufacturers or external vendors through the NPI (New Product Introduction) lifecycle.
- IP Knowledge: Basic, working knowledge of how patents function (filing, opposition, etc.).
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Adaptability: A flexible mindset with the capability and willingness to pivot into plant operations and engineering services in the future.
