Job Description
Rockefeller Group is a premier owner and operator of Class-A office properties in Midtown Manhattan and develops, owns, and manages a diversified portfolio of real estate projects across the United States, spanning office, industrial, residential, and mixed-use. Our Core portfolio includes some of New York City’s most recognizable and enduring assets, including 1271 Avenue of the Americas, the landmarked former Time & Life Building, now fully modernized and LEED Gold certified; 745 Seventh Avenue, a 32-story office tower serving global financial tenants; and 1221 Avenue of the Americas, a defining International Style skyscraper on the Midtown skyline. Our development teams are involved from site selection and underwriting through design, construction, and long-term ownership, working across markets and product types.
Our Legal team serves as a strategic business partner across the organization, supporting Core operations, Development, Investments, and corporate functions. Legal professionals work closely with senior leadership and business teams to structure complex real estate transactions, manage risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the long-term success of one of the nation's premier real estate owners, developers, and operators. Represents the company and its subsidiaries as legal officer on selected matters in order to ensure that the Company’s operations and policies are legally sound, and to ensure continued growth and profitability for the Company.
What You\'ll Do
Real Estate Transactions & Legal Counsel
- Prepares and examines contracts pertaining to real estate transactions, including sales and acquisitions, development, design and construction, leasing, financing and joint ventures, management and operations of real estate assets, corporate governance and other corporate business. May conduct selected negotiations of same
- Be the primary attorney responsible for managing the preparation and execution of all documents for the Southeast region of Rockefeller Group Development Corporation (“RGDC”)
- Notifies the SVP, Chief Legal Officer & Secretary, Rockefeller Group International, Inc. (“RGII”) (”CLO” ), of proposed documents that may create substantial obligations and liabilities
- Oversees compliance with applicable laws and contractual commitments
- Performs selected in-house legal work such as corporate projects
Legal Department & Corporate Support
- Supervises the work of outside counsel for RGII and its subsidiaries
- Assists the CLO in maintaining an effective communication system within the Legal Department and from the Legal Department to the corporate and subsidiary officers and department and division heads
- Assists the CLO in maintaining corporate records and documents
- Displays and maintains continuing commitment to enhancing customer service
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Analyzes transactions and situations from a legal and business perspective
- Provides legal counsel and makes recommendations to business teams regarding transactions and business issues
- Recommends changes to enhance/streamline communication among legal, development and construction teams
What We\'re Looking For
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Juris Doctorate required
Experience / Knowledge / Skills
- Minimum of six to eight years progressive experience in real estate and corporate law
- Ability to effectively and clearly present complex legal information to tenants, top management, employees, prospective investors, government officials and the general public. Ability to read, write and thoroughly understand and apply complicated legal data
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, including decisive thinking in crisis situations. Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems

- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft office and related programs
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages, and to apply mathematical concepts
- Ability to work long, irregular hours, a varied schedule including weekends, and ability to return to work for emergency situations on an on-call basis
- Ability to travel to meetings in and outside New York City
Licenses & Certifications
- License to practice law in New York State
- May require other limited licensure as required in other jurisdictions where the Company has offices
