Senior Accountant

About the Role As the Senior Accountant , you'll be a key player on our Finance Team, reporting to the Director of Finance. We specialize in building AI/ML models for private and public entities, driving innovation and efficiency. You'll maintain accurate financial records, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and keep our financial operations running smoothly. This role requires a highly organized individual with strong analytical skills who can work both collaboratively and independently in a fast‑paced environment. What You'll Do: Financial Operations: Perform month‑end and year‑end closing procedures, including journal entries, accruals and reconciliations Ensure timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions Prepare or review complex account reconciliations including accounts receivable, accounts payable, cost‑of‑goods reconciliation, inter‑company transactions, investments, work in progress, capital asset depreciation, bank reconciliation and foreign exchange transactions Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of internal controls to safeguard company assets Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency Financial Analysis: Analyze financial data to ensure accuracy and compliance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises and US GAAP Identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement Develop and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures Determine appropriate sales tax rates and complete government remittances Support foreign exchange transactions and future hedging opportunities Financial Reporting: Assist with financial data and grant financing applications and reporting Assist with external auditors and provide audit support as required Assist with compilation of monthly financial reporting, including budget‑to‑actual and financial statement variance analysis Work with various business units on projects (financial modeling / FP&A / system implementations, efficiency initiatives) as directed What You Bring Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field Progressing toward or completion of CPA (or equivalent certification) 4–5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a similar role; experience in the tech industry is an asset Sound knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises and/or International Financial Reporting Standards Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills Systemic thinker with a keen analytical mindset Detail‑oriented with strong time‑management skills to meet deadlines Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and an enterprise‑level accounting software Experience working in a fast‑paced scale‑up environment or ability to manage multiple priorities Nice to have: Experience with NetSuite, Google Suite and Stampli Responsible AI AltaML employees, contractors and associates must be trained in Responsible AI principles and empowered to raise and address RAI concerns as required. They are also expected to advance public discourse and awareness of AI through open, transparent communication.
