Job DescriptionSenior ePOS Software Engineer Contract Contract Type: 6-month contract (with potential extension) Day Rate: €600 per day Work Arrangement: Hybrid minimum 2 days onsite per week, with remaining days remote Sector: Public Transport / Mobility Technology Work Eligibility: Candidates must have full working rights in Ireland. Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior ePOS Software Engineer to join a technology team delivering secure, reliable, and scalable electronic Point-of-Sale (ePOS) solutions within the public transport and mobility sector.
The successful candidate will have strong embedded software engineering experience, with expertise in C development, POSIX environments, embedded operating systems, and multi-platform software development. The role will involve designing, developing, integrating, and supporting software solutions for advanced payment and ticketing technologies. This position is suited to a senior engineer with proven experience working across embedded platforms, integrated ticketing ecosystems, secure card technologies, and complex hardware/software environments.
Key Responsibilities Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software solutions for ePOS and ticketing platforms. Develop high-performance C applications within POSIX-based environments. Implement inter-process communication (IPC) and multi-threaded software solutions.
Develop and support applications across embedded operating systems and multiple target platforms. Perform cross-compilation for different operating systems and hardware environments. Develop software solutions for Point-of-Sale devices and integrated payment/ticketing systems.
Work with integrated ticketing technologies, including secure card-based solutions. Support development and integration of ticketing technology APIs and software components. Develop and maintain software using appropriate IDEs, SDKs, and embedded development toolchains.
Manage source code using distributed version control systems, including Git. Collaborate with software engineers, hardware teams, architects, testers, and external stakeholders. Support system implementation activities including design, development, integration, testing, and deployment.
Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes, tooling, and engineering standards. Required Skills & Experience Minimum NFQ Level 8 degree qualification in a relevant discipline such as: Computer Science Hardware Engineering Software Engineering Equivalent technical experience Minimum 5 years professional experience in: C language development within POSIX environments Inter-process communication (IPC) programming Multi-threaded programming Embedded operating systems Experience with cross-compiling software for multiple operating systems. Proven experience developing software for Point-of-Sale devices.
Experience using distributed revision control and source management tools, particularly Git. Experience with integrated ticketing card technologies. Experience with integrated ticketing physical SAM card technologies.
Experience developing APIs within integrated ticketing technology stacks. Experience with embedded development tools and environments, including: IAR Workbench IDE and associated development tools Ingenico Telium2 platform SDK and development tools Experience developing across multiple platforms, including: Windows Development 32-bit and 64-bit Windows development environments. Microsoft Visual Studio development experience, including MSVS 2008 and modern MSVS versions.
Ubuntu Development 32-bit and 64-bit Linux development environments. Experience with: GCC GDB VS Code CMake Android Development 32-bit and 64-bit Android development experience. Experience with: Android NDK CMake JNI Raspberry Pi Development 32-bit and 64-bit Raspberry Pi development experience.
Experience with: GCC GDB VS Code CMake Experience working with Azure DevOps. Desired : Experience working on large-scale transport, payment, or ticketing technology platforms. Strong understanding of secure embedded software development practices.
Experience integrating hardware and software components in complex environments. Ability to troubleshoot low-level software and hardware integration issues. Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex technical challenges.
Comfortable working independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
