The Impact You'll Make
As the Staff Product Designer - Visual Experience, you’ll define and elevate the visual design direction for Loblaw Digital. You’ll work across teams to raise the bar for design execution, establish a shared visual language, and coach teams to bring that vision to life. You will inspire a culture of design excellence, create space for bold creativity, and help us deliver customer experiences that are not only functional, but beautiful, ownable, and brand-aligned.
You Will
- Lead and evolve the overall visual design direction across all domains at Loblaw Digital (e.g., Online Grocery, Loyalty, Health, Retail Media, Beauty, and Apparel)
- Lead the visual design execution of high‑complexity initiatives with modern, scalable, accessible interface design
- Own the quality oversight and critique process for UI craft and design system usage
- Partner closely with Product Design Leads and Directors to embed visual design into the strategic planning, design review and delivery process
- Push continuous improvement of our design system, including component updates, new patterns, documentation, and education
- Coach and mentor product designers to grow visual design capabilities across all levels
- Build and maintain visual design standards, systems, and playbooks in collaboration with our design systems lead
- Partner with engineering to ensure visual quality and fidelity are protected during build
- Conduct design reviews, workshops, and critiques to raise team quality and consistency
- Help teams measure success through design quality indicators and post‑launch UI performance
- Create prototypes, design specifications, and artifacts that clarify how experiences should look, feel, and behave
- Identify opportunities for system‑level improvements that deliver long‑term efficiency and product excellence
- Influence org‑wide storytelling by helping shape how we present design internally and externally

- Be a champion of visual craft – you passionately obsess over spacing, hierarchy, typography, accessibility contrast, and subtle UI interactions that make digital experiences joyful and effortless. You evangelize the importance of polish and help others develop the same judgement.
- Be a steward of our design system – you know how to scale great design. You strengthen and extend our design system so designers can build higher‑quality work faster. You work with engineers to ensure quality survives shipping.
- Be a decisive, trusted critic – you deliver clear critique that makes work better. Designers rely on you for final approvals on visual quality, design consistency, and interaction integrity.
- Be deeply collaborative – you bring multidisciplinary teams together to align on quality goals, simplify complexity, and champion the end‑to‑end visual experience.
- Be outcome‑minded – you balance beauty with purpose. Your decisions improve customer satisfaction, reduce friction, and support business goals.
- Be a mentor and multiplier – you level up dozens of designers by modeling best practices, sharing tools, and creating clarity in the bar we expect for shipped experiences.
Ideal Experience
- 10+ years of experience in visual, product, or brand design with a strong focus on digital interfaces and products
- 5+ years in a senior or lead‑level design role with experience reviewing and coaching visual design across multiple teams
- Proven track record of delivering visually exceptional work across consumer‑facing digital products (bonus if in e‑commerce, Health, Loyalty, or Retail Media)
- Experience working in a cross‑functional environment with product, engineering, and brand/marketing teams
- A portfolio that demonstrates excellence in visual design, systems thinking, and cross‑platform execution
- Experience contributing to or collaborating on a design system
- Experience presenting work to executive stakeholders, with strong storytelling and rationale
