ABOUT THE ROLE
Lead the definition and execution of the tax strategy for Brazil, translating global direction into compliant, practical, and value-creating approaches aligned with the country’s business model, regulatory environment, and operational priorities.
Ensure robust tax governance and full compliance, proactively managing risk and controversy while optimizing cash flow, P&L, and balance-sheet impacts in line with the company’s risk appetite.
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing clear tax positioning and strategic guidance on high-impact decisions, supported by strong technical expertise and people leadership.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Brazil Tax Strategy & Governance
- Translate and implement the global tax strategy in Brazil, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives while addressing local legal, fiscal, and operational complexities.
- Act as the Brazil tax authority, ensuring consistent governance, decision frameworks, and risk assessment across local operations and business priorities.
- Provide senior leadership with clear tax positioning, scenario analysis, and executive-level recommendations on high-impact matters.
Tax Compliance, Risk Management & Controversy
- Ensure end-to-end tax compliance with Brazilian tax regulations and applicable international requirements connected to local operations.
- Lead and oversee complex, high-value tax controversies and litigation, working closely with external advisors, tax authorities, and legal teams.
- Direct ownership of material litigation exposure, including: Protege case, involving a potential liability of $73 million with direct implications for historical tax positions, cash flow, and balance sheet risk.
- PIS/COFINS business segregation litigation, with an estimated exposure of $318M, requiring deep technical expertise, strong defense strategies, and close coordination with Finance and Legal.
- Ensure appropriate risk provisioning, disclosures, and alignment with accounting and governance standards.
Brazilian Tax Reform – Strategic Leadership
- Act as the local executive sponsor for Brazilian Tax Reform.
- Assess and lead the implementation of Tax Reform impacts across: Business models
- Pricing and margin structure
- Supply chain and legal entity design
- Systems, reporting, and controls
- Provide clear guidance to executive leadership on financial impacts, transition risks, and strategic opportunities arising from the reform.
- Coordinate cross-functional execution involving Tax, Finance, Legal, IT, and Business leadership to ensure a controlled and value-preserving transition.
Tax Planning & Value Creation
- Design and recommend tax planning strategies with direct P&L, cash flow, and balance-sheet impact, fully aligned with business strategy and risk appetite.
- Support M&A, restructurings, carve-outs, and business transformations in Brazil from a tax perspective.
Stakeholder Influence & Executive Interaction
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, the Brazil CFO, and global tax leadership.
- Represent the company before tax authorities, industry forums, and external advisors on sensitive and strategic topics.
- Influence decision-making through structured, data-driven, and executive-level communication.
People & Budget Management
- Define and lead the Brazil tax organization, including structure, talent development, succession planning, and performance management up to N-1 level.
- Full ownership of the tax function budget (up to USD 250k), ensuring cost discipline and effective allocation of external advisory spend.
- Lead and execute strategic tax projects in Brazil, with measurable business impact and alignment with global tax direction.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Law, Economics, or Business Administration with a Specialization (Post-graduate / MBA) in Tax is required.
- More than 9 years of professional experience in tax planning, compliance, and controversy.
- Proven experience working in medium to large-scale multinational corporate environments.
- Demonstrated experience in team management, talent development, and organizational design.
- Advanced proficiency in English.
- Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and SAP or similar ERP systems.
- Deeply solidified understanding of Brazilian tax legislation, indirect/direct taxes, and the upcoming Brazilian Tax Reform.
- Strong sense of ownership and commitment.
- Strategic vision with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
