About the role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to support the day-to-day operations with our finance team. This role is ideal for someone early in their accounting career who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and wants to build strong foundations across financial reporting, budgeting, and operational finance.
What you’ll be doing (but not limited to)
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing journals, accruals, and prepayments, and assisting with timely completion of reporting deadlines.
- Maintain the general ledger by processing daily bank feeds, reconciling accounts and credit cards, and ensuring accurate expense allocation across departments.
- Assist with the preparation of data for BAS and other statutory lodgements.
- Contribute to budgeting and financial planning activities by preparing reports and analysing variances.
- Generate customer invoices, monitor receivables, and assist with follow-up on overdue payments.
- Process supplier invoices, purchase orders ensuring proper approvals, and support vendor sourcing and supplier setup.
- Track asset purchases and maintain records for the asset register and depreciation.
- Maintain organised financial records and filing systems to support audit readiness and compliance.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to streamline manual tasks and improve internal controls and provide general assistance to the team as required.
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles and standards.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial modelling, etc.).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.
- Must possess Australian work rights to be eligible for this position.
Nice to have but not essential
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Dynamics).
- Familiarity with business intelligence or financial analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Previous experience in accounting-related functions.
