Part Time Teacher of Maths to KS4 (Maternity Cover) (Temporary part time for 2026-27 working Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) Please number and detail each criteria in turn on your application form in section 7 Essential Criteria An Honours Degree (2.2 level or above) with Maths as the main component. Please explain. A secondary level teaching qualification in Maths as recognised by the Department of Education by 31 August 2026.

Subject teachers are expected to adhere to DENI's Terms and Conditions. Maths Department The Maths Department is comprised of 14 teachers. The staff are enthusiastic and work very well as a team. All staff are encouraged to be reflective in their teaching and share good
practice. During Key Stage 3 we teach students of all abilities. Classes are set according to their mathematical ability.
Students of lower ability are usually placed in smaller classes. Tests are used in Year 8 to determine baseline standards and assist in target-setting. During Years 11 and 12 students are prepared for CCEA GCSE Mathematics or OCN's Application of Number Level 1 and Level 2.
Nine Year 12 classes are prepared for the 2-tier GCSE, with six classes aiming for Higher GCSE and the remaining classes entering for the
Foundation tier. Students in the tenth class are entered for only the OCN's AoN qualification.
GCSE Further Maths is offered to one class in Year 11 and in Year 12 in addition to the Higher GCSE Maths. GCSE Statistics is offered to one class in Year 11 and 12 in addition to the Higher GCSE Maths. Lagan College also offers CCEA A Level Maths and has seen a growing trend of students opting for this course.
During recent years the Department has been developing resources and ideas that have assisted in the introduction of active learning and the use of ICT, in particular the iPad. The use of mathematical games and puzzles is encouraged as a way of stimulating interest in Maths outside the normal curriculum. Student progress is monitored carefully and tracking
