Job Description
Teacher of Girls' PE to GCSE Level (Part time maternity cover for 2026/27 working Monday, Wednesday and Friday) Please number and detail each criteria in turn on your application form in section 7 Essential Criteria An Honours Degree (2:2 level or above) in PE. A secondary level teaching qualification in PE and a subsidiary subject as recognised by the Department of Education by August 2026. Experience of teaching PE to GCSE level (on student placement or post qualification).
A qualification in Hockey coaching/ umpiring. A clear written statement of how you can support the College's integrated and inclusive ethos. Willingness to be involved in Saturday morning Girls' Hockey. (There is an additional coaching level payment to staff).
Desirable Criteria Other coaching/ umpiring qualifications. The Board of Governors reserves the right to refine the criteria for shortlisting purposes. The Board of Governors reserves the right to amend and or adjust this role of responsibility, in consultation with the member of staff, to reflect the changing needs of the college.
All teachers are expected to adhere to DENI's Jordanstown Terms and Conditions. PE Department The PE Department is comprised of 6 core teachers. The staff are enthusiastic and work very well as a team.
All staff are encouraged to be reflective in their teaching and share good practice. The PE Department is lead and managed by a number of staff comprising of the overall Head of PE, Head of Boys' PE, Head of Girls' PE, Head of Girls' Hockey and the Saturday morning programme. All students experience games and PE is offered at GCSE and A Level.
A wide and varied extra-curricular programme is offered including basketball, football, hockey, netball, Gaelic and gymnastics. We also offer tennis, athletics and cricket in the summer months. We have state of the art PE facilities including a fitness suite, astro-turf, grass pitch, five tennis courts and two sports halls.
We offer a Saturday morning programme to girls in hockey. The successful applicant will be expected to be involved in the Saturday hockey programme on a coaching/umpiring capacity with the Head of Hockey and other teachers/staff. At present we do not offer a Saturday morning programme to boys, as the vast majority of our students play Soccer, Rugby and Gaelic for local clubs at the weekend.
The PE Department has been highly successful at competition level in many disciplines and we look forward to a new teacher joining our team to cover this maternity position. The successful candidate will also be expected to take form teacher duties, deliver personal development and support the extra-curricular activities within the College.
