Senior Hazardous Area (Ex) Design & Certification Engineer
BnG Spray Solutions Private Limited
Job Description
We are looking for a highly experienced engineer with proven expertise in the design, development, testing, and certification of explosion-protected (Ex) electrical equipment.
The successful candidate will lead the complete hazardous-area engineering process—from concept design through prototype development, certification testing, regulatory approvals, and production release. The role involves close interaction with certification agencies including CIMFR, BIS, PESO, and, preferably, international certification bodies for IECEx and ATEX approvals.
Candidates with prior experience in hazardous-area instrumentation, transmitters, analyzers, process automation equipment, or explosion-protected industrial electronics are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Lead the hazardous-area design of industrial instrumentation and analyzer systems.
- Design and develop flameproof (Ex db) enclosures in accordance with IS/IEC 60079-0 and IS/IEC 60079-1.
- Design flamepaths, threaded joints, covers, inspection windows, cable entry systems, terminal compartments, and sealing arrangements.
- Develop equipment suitable for Gas Group IIC and combustible dust environments.
- Perform enclosure design calculations, thermal evaluations, and mechanical assessments.
- Select and integrate certified Ex components, including cable glands, stopping plugs, terminal blocks, feedthroughs, breathers, and associated hardware.
- Prepare technical construction files, engineering drawings, bills of materials, risk assessments, manufacturing specifications, and certification documentation.
- Coordinate with certification agencies including CIMFR, BIS, PESO, and international certification bodies during design reviews, testing, and product approval.
- Support prototype development, qualification testing, and resolution of certification observations.
- Develop manufacturing quality procedures, inspection methods, and traceability systems for certified products.
- Provide technical guidance to mechanical, electronics, firmware, and manufacturing teams throughout the product development cycle.
- Support future certification activities for international markets, including IECEx and ATEX where applicable.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in hazardous-area (Ex) equipment design or certification.
- Strong working knowledge of the IS/IEC 60079 series of standards.
- Demonstrated experience in the design of flameproof (Ex db) enclosures.
- Thorough understanding of Gas Groups IIA, IIB, IIC, Equipment Protection Levels (Ga/Gb/Gc), and Temperature Classes (T1–T6).
- Experience with hazardous-area equipment used in oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, mining, or industrial process applications.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or similar.
- Familiarity with precision machining, flamepath tolerances, enclosure manufacturing, and IP66/IP67 enclosure design.
- Ability to prepare certification documentation and work effectively with testing laboratories and regulatory authorities.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- BIS certification of Ex equipment.
- PESO approval of hazardous-area products.
- Product testing through CSIR-CIMFR.
- IECEx and/or ATEX certification.
- IEC 61010, IEC 61326, IEC 60529, and related industrial equipment standards.
- Industrial gas analyzers, oxygen analyzers, pressure transmitters, process instrumentation, PLCs, DCS equipment, or industrial automation products.
- Quality management systems, manufacturing process control, and regulatory compliance.
The selected engineer will be responsible for delivering:
- Hazardous-area compliant product architecture.
- Certified flameproof enclosure design.
- Complete engineering documentation and technical construction file.
- Manufacturing drawings and assembly documentation.
- Certification-ready prototype.
- Test procedures and qualification plans.
- Manufacturing quality documentation and inspection procedures.
- Technical support throughout BIS, CIMFR, PESO, and, where applicable, IECEx/ATEX certification.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent technical documentation and communication abilities.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Practical approach to engineering design and manufacturing.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and international engineering standards.
