Hays are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a respected public sector organisation for an experienced HR Administrator. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience within a busy HR function, supporting a large and diverse workforce while contributing to the delivery of high-quality people services.
Your new role
As HR Administrator, you will provide professional and confidential administrative support across a broad range of HR activities. Working within a fast-paced Employee Services team, you will be responsible for maintaining employee records, processing HR documentation, supporting payroll administration, monitoring HR inboxes, responding to employee queries, and ensuring HR systems are updated accurately and efficiently.
Key duties will include:
- Maintaining accurate employee records and HR databases.
- Processing documentation relating to employee life cycle events, including leave, probation, contractual changes and leavers.
- Supporting monthly payroll administration and ensuring accurate payroll instructions are issued.
- Managing employee queries and providing guidance on HR processes and procedures.
- Producing correspondence, reports and management information as required.
- Assisting with recruitment and onboarding activities.
- Monitoring shared HR inboxes and responding to enquiries within agreed timescales.
- Supporting records management, GDPR compliance and document retention processes.
- Providing administrative support for HR meetings and taking accurate notes when required.
- Liaising with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure an efficient HR service is delivered
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this position, you will demonstrate:
- Either five GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths, together with at least one year's experience in a busy office-based administrative role, or at least two years' experience in a demanding administrative environment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Experience providing excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing workloads and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High levels of accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality.
Desirable criteria include:
- Previous experience within an HR administration environment.
- An HR qualification, or currently working towards one.
- Experience working within a large organisation, public sector environment or multi-site setting.
