Role Overview
We are hiring a Junior Linux Engineer to join a high-performance technology team within a leading hedge fund. This role is ideal for someone with solid hands-on experience in enterprise Linux environments who is looking to deepen their expertise in a fast-paced, mission-critical setting.
You will be responsible for supporting and engineering Linux-based infrastructure (primarily RHEL and Ubuntu), with a strong focus on system reliability, automation, and secure operations. Working alongside senior engineers, you will contribute to both daily operations and ongoing infrastructure improvements.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide day-to-day support and administration of Linux servers (RHEL and Ubuntu) in a production environmentPerform core system administration tasks, including:User, group, and permission managementPatch management and package updatesSystem monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planningSupport and enhance centralized configuration and automation frameworks (e.g., Ansible)Build and maintain standardized system images, ensuring consistency and compliance across environmentsImplement and manage Linux system hardening and security best practicesConfigure and support cross-platform file sharing and storage, including:NFS for Linux environmentsSMB/CIFS integration with Windows systemsTroubleshoot infrastructure, OS, and storage-related issues; assist with root cause analysis and incident resolutionSupport backup, recovery, and high-availability strategiesMaintain accurate documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and runbooksParticipate in infrastructure projects and continuous improvement initiativesEnsure adherence to security policies, change management processes, and operational standards
Required Skills & ExperienceDegree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related fieldMinimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration within a structured environmentStrong experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and/or UbuntuPractical exposure to configuration management and automation tools (e.g., Ansible)Solid understanding of Linux command-line operations and basic shell scriptingExperience with network file systems and cross-platform file sharing (Linux & Windows)Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls)Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a proactive approach to problem-solvingAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team environment
Preferred / Advantageous SkillsExposure to cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure (VMs, networking, storage)Experience with container technologies (e.g., Docker)Familiarity with automation, provisioning, or CI/CD pipelinesUnderstanding of Linux security hardening and compliance frameworksExperience supporting production-critical or regulated environments (e.g., financial services, hedge funds, trading platforms)
