Platform Operations Engineer

Cloud Platform Engineer – (OpenShift & Government Commercial Cloud)We are seeking an experienced Cloud Platform Engineer specialising in OpenShift and container platform automation. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, engineering, and automating the lifecycle of OpenShift clusters to support high-quality, reliable government digital services.

This is a 1-year contract with the potential of conversion to full-time

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, engineer, and automate the lifecycle of OpenShift clusters, treating infrastructure as software.Develop robust automation for cluster provisioning, upgrades, and scaling using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Python.Implement and maintain OpenShift components, including OVN-Kubernetes networking and OpenShift Data Foundation (ODF) storage.Engineer reliability and performance optimisations to ensure high availability of the container platform.Implement GitOps workflows for cluster configuration management.Develop and maintain platform automation, processes, toolchains, and best practices to enable secure and agile services on the cloud.Collaborate with internal teams to ensure platform solutions meet security, compliance, and operational requirements.Troubleshoot and resolve platform issues, coordinating with relevant stakeholders as needed.

Mandatory Skills & Experience/RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.Minimum 4 years of relevant working experience in cloud infrastructure or platform engineering.Strong expertise in Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes internals.Proficiency in scripting and automation using Bash or Python.Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible.Knowledge of storage technologies (Ceph/ODF) and networking (SDN, OVN) in containerised environments.Familiarity with GitOps principles and tools.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Effective communicator (written and verbal) with the ability to work across cross-functional teams.Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing requirements in a fast-paced environment.Experience in developing and maintaining technical documentation and operational guides.
