Role Overview
BMO Nesbitt Burns Finance provides comprehensive financial oversight at the legal entity level, working with Wealth and Capital Markets pillars. The role focuses on accurate journal entries, proofs of balance, and adherence to reporting standards, while validating and closing legal entity results, reviewing controls, performing reconciliations and analytics to assess financial outcomes against business performance.
This position offers exposure beyond core accounting, allowing you to gain a holistic view of Canada’s complex broker‑dealer and to engage with front‑office trading, investment banking, Capital Markets, Treasury, Operations, and Finance partners.
Key Responsibilities- Consolidate, analyze, and report on the financial performance of the business or group to support month‑, quarter‑, and year‑end closing, including financial reporting and governance.
- Execute strategic initiatives, track metrics and milestones.
- Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Break down strategic problems, analyze data, and provide accounting insights and recommendations.
- Identify opportunities for alignment between accounting/finance processes and operational processes.
- Act as point of escalation for operational matters and policy deviations.
- Analyze financial results to support closing and reporting processes;
provide insights and recommendations. - Gather and format data into regular and ad‑hoc reports and dashboards for assigned legal entity or group.
- Prepare journal entries, monthly/quarterly reporting packages, financial statements, and tax payments and reconciliations in accordance with accounting rules.
- Provide information and support internal corporate and SOX audits as well as external audits.
- Review supporting documentation, escalating concerns and making necessary amendments.
- Coordinate and execute activities for strategic initiatives, tracking metrics and milestones.
- Execute routine tasks within service level agreements.
- Organize work information to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver on business objectives.
- Develop knowledge of business/group accounting requirements and standards.
- Maintain enterprise‑wide focus where applicable.
- Exercise judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within rules.
- Work independently on complex tasks with unique situations.
- Take measured risks while protecting the bank, applying Risk Management Framework and Risk Culture.
- 4-6 years of relevant experience or post‑secondary degree in related field, or equivalent education and experience.
- Completed or near completion of an accounting designation (CPA preferred).
- Strong technical proficiency through education and/or business experience.

Salary range: $61,600 – $113,900 (annual). Salary may vary by location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part‑time roles are pro‑rated.
