Position OverviewWe are looking for a dynamic Social Media Manager to support social media strategy and content development.
This contract role combines strategic planning, hands-on content creation, agency liaison and stakeholder management with the objective of growing our social media presence and reaching and engaging new audiences across existing and new platforms.
The successful candidate will provide support for all social media activities, ensuring content is timely, engaging and effective whilst staying ahead of digital trends and platform best practices.
Key ResponsibilitiesChannel Strategy and DevelopmentDevelop comprehensive social media content calendars that align with business objectives and messaging, planning content themes, messaging, and posting schedules across multiple platforms to ensure consistent brand presence and audience engagement.Conduct market research and peer analysis to identify content opportunities and brand positioning and persona across social platforms including Facebook, Instagram and TikTokContribute to the development of a comprehensive TikTok Playbook covering content scheduling, tone of voice, community management guidelines, and posting protocols
Content Creation and Production ManagementLead and execute in-house content creation including photography, videography, graphic design, and copywriting while coordinating with internal resources and talent to facilitate high-quality production.Oversee end-to-end content production timelines for all branded content, ensuring all deliverables are completed and published according to plan while meeting brand standards and strategic objectives.Build an always-available content bank with diverse, engaging materials for current and future social platforms.
Creative Agency LiaisonCollaborate closely with creative agencies to plan, coordinate, and execute photo and video shoots when external expertise is required.Manage agency relationships and facilitate communication between internal teams and external partners, briefing creative teams on project requirements and managing shoot logistics.Determine optimal allocation between in-house and external production based on project scope, requirements, and budget considerations.
Trend Monitoring and Performance AnalysisContinuously monitor social media platforms and digital marketing landscape to identify emerging trends, viral content opportunities, and platform algorithm changesSupport the evaluation of trend relevance and assist in recommending strategic adoption to maximise engagement and reach.Monitor social media metrics and content performance across all platforms, compilingregular reports analysing engagement rates, reach, impressions, and other key performance indicators.Provide actionable insights and recommendations for content optimisation and strategy refinement, informing both in-house production decisions and external agency briefs.
Required Qualifications Experience and Skills4–6 years of relevant experience in social media / digital marketing, with campaign management experience and hands-on content creation including photography, videography, or graphic designStrong understanding of major social media platforms, particularly TikTok, and their unique characteristicsExperience in building a strong social presence from the ground up and capturing attention in competitive digital spacesExcellent organisational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to support multiple projects simultaneouslyExperience supporting creative agencies and managing external partnership coordinationUnderstanding of Government and Whole-of-Government (WOG) social media best practices, including compliance requirements, approval processes, and content guidelines for public sector communications with experience working within government social media frameworks and understanding of public sector communication protocols.
Technical ProficiencyProficiency in creating content using tools such as Canva, CapCut, or similar applications (provide samples)Experience with social media analytics tools and reporting platforms
Communication and CollaborationStrong communication skills and proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teamsExperience supporting the development of social media presence and understanding of competitive digital landscapesAbility to work independently whilst maintaining regular communication with internal teams and external partners
Preferred QualificationsBackground in marketing, communications, or related creative fieldExperience with content management systems and social media scheduling toolsKnowledge of current digital marketing trends and best practicesProject management certification or relevant professional qualificationsPortfolio demonstrating content creation capabilities across various formats
Contract DetailsThis is a contract position.The role requires someone who can work independently whilst maintaining regular communication with internal teams and external partners. Access to content creation equipment and software will be provided as needed.
